Please tell us about your magical healing powers.

I help parents feel better about the way they parent by teaching respect-based strategies for managing children’s frustrating behavior & strong emotions. I work with parents to bring more calm and connection into their homes so they can worry less about their kids and enjoy them more.

Tell us about your home team.

I have two fun-loving daughters (4 and 1 1/2) and an amazingly supportive husband. We live and love in Arcola, Virginia, a suburb of DC in Northern Virginia.

Besides your work, what else are you passionate about?

I am passionate about teaching the concepts of empathy and compassion to as many people — in as many ways — as possible. I think that if we can learn to be kind to ourselves and to others, and the world will be a different place.

How do you take care of yourself?

I take 10-minute self-care breaks where I do something that will FILL my energy bank! I also try to practice gratitude as much as possible.

 

Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about your work?

I’d just love to be able to provide hope and tools for parents who are struggling. I want to teach them that it is possible to feel good about raising responsible, confident kids – even in today’s world!

What is your official title?

Holistic Health Specialist

 

What are your magical healing powers?

I guide women to heal from the inside out, by teaching them to listen to their body as the source of wisdom and healing for their needs.

My magic healing powers are disguised in the tools and support I offer to my clients, and in the commitment they are willing to make to enrich their health and their lives.

 

Tell us about your home team.

I’ve been blessed with a home full of men: a devoted husband, 2 sons in their 20s and an adorable angel who’s nearly 8. Fortunately, all that testosterone is balanced by our 9 year old lady cat.

Despite the challenges of smelly socks and trying to keep the fridge stocked, I know that I’m loved and respected by each and every one of them in their own way.

Nothing pleases me more than seeing my children out in the world, doing their thing; I’m bursting with joy that they’re each forging their own path.

Besides your work, what else are you passionate about?

I live for any day that I can be out in Nature – specifically surrounded by trees. Walking in the woods, sitting quietly under a tree with a book or my journal, meditating their beauty and strength. The only thing that makes it better is when there’s a lake nearby that I can swim in. Now that’s icing on the cake!

I’ve a deep, uncanny, connection to our green symbiants – something I don’t generally talk about – and I’m starting to look around for a suitable organization through which I can give back to those organisms that bring us so much.

 

How do you take care of yourself?

As you can imagine, being outside charges my batteries like nothing else, so long as I conscientiously connect with some piece of the natural world around me. Grounded into Nature, I have boundless energy for work, for looking after my family, for the mundane tasks of caring for my home.

In fact, that one piece has become the cornerstone to my spiritual practice, and it reminds me that every gesture I make during the day is a continuation of that practice.

Though I’m not one for many products or decorations when it comes to my own toilette, nor into drastic diets, there’s so much pleasure in what I do when I approach it with the idea that I’m adorning or feeding the goddess inside.

 

What else would you like to share about you, your work or anything?

Through my work I hope to inspire more women to take the same approach.

Rather than separate body & soul to be considered from different points of view, I aim to inspire women to feel their soul through the body and allow its love and purpose simply to pour forth from the container.

It’s through hearing a woman’s story that I draw together the themes & images that permeate her life, provide clues to her ailments and the keys to her healing.

I want women to understand that being IN that overweight, cramping, mucousy body is all a part of the package – that it’s through the celebration of its wonders that she’ll transform it (or it’ll transform her!)

 

Do you have a favorite inspirational quote?

This quote touched me so much when I first read “The Poisonwood Bible” ages ago, but suddenly, the context of my work has breathed new life to it for me:

 Meet Kate Lethbridge: Holistic Kinesiologist

What are your magical healing powers?

I LOVE to help people break through their limits, ditch their baggage and live their absolute dream life. I use kinesiology to literally clear out the stress from the body that has been keeping you stuck. Once physical and emotional pain-points are resolved, there is no other option that to live the life of your dreams! I specialise in one-on-one consultations in person or via Skype.

 

Tell us about your home team.

I am married to my extremely supportive and loving husband who is also just as passionate as me about business and health. We have a beautiful 9-month old daughter who we adore.

Besides your work, what else are you passionate about?

I feel very strongly about supporting organically grown produce. It is not only considerably better for our health; it is the only way to ensure that our animals are being treated as humanely as possible throughout the farming process. ‘Free-range’ is not free-range.

 

How do you take care of yourself?

Eating only organic produce; fresh lemon in warm water before breakfast; avoiding all refined sugar; use organic coconut oil as moisturiser; visit the beach barefoot as often as possible; Bikram yoga twice a week; watch a TV show I love every so often when I need to switch-off; daily discussion with my husband about our hopes and dreams whether they be soon or far into the future and not being scared to change them – regularly!

 

What else would you like to share about you, your work or anything?

I have a background as a registered nurse, having this knowledge behind my kinesiology practice really helps me understand what is happening within mine and my client’s body. I have also been through major life changes and have lived in fear for a long time. This is why I am so passionate about helping people make the changes that they want to make in the easiest and most supportive way possible; so that they too can live their dream life.

Let me share a little story:

It started around February of 2012. I had had it.

I was feeling blah and tired of it. I had been teaching Pilates for about 9 years, just made a move north from Los Angeles County to Ventura County; which meant a new area, another new school, new parents to meet and a new community to roam about.

I was really feeling out a place in my new neighborhood and new Pilates studio, plus I was further away from my friends- and for those of you who don’t know me, I love to be surrounded by friends and family at all times. It’s kind of ridiculous.

But anyway, so now, here I was a mama flying solo with my 3 spunky nuggets in new territory and I felt blah!

I wanted to experience more, I wanted new adventures, fun, I wanted to create and I wanted to change the world, basically. You know, your everyday wants.

But how to get the strength, motivation and courage even, to get from where I was to where I wanted to go? I had no idea. I didn’t even know where I wanted to go really; I just knew I wasn’t there yet.

So this is what I did. You’re going to laugh because it sounds so simple it’s almost ridiculous. I decided to commit myself to 3 workouts a week. Yes, that’s where I started and that’s all it took to create some massive change in my life.

Being a Pilates Instructor doesn’t mean I get to work out all the time. It means I have to squeeze my workouts in to my schedule before, during or after work just like everyone else. And usually, I’m ready to get the heck out of dodge at the end of my day; so staying longer to work myself out is the last thing I want to do.

I hear this a lot when I first meet someone and mention what I do for work. “Oh you must be in great shape from working out all the time!” Um, no love, that means I stand there and bark orders, basically.

Ok, back to my life changing commitment. Like I said, I decided to commit to three workouts per week, so I found a Pilates (with a twist) type studio near my new house. And when I say committed, I mean committed. I paid my monthly membership, which was more cost effective if I agreed to a 6 month contract, so that’s what I did. Why not, I was committing right? I registered for the classes I wanted to take one month in advance and marched my happy bum over to the studio directly after dropping the girls off at school every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sometimes I threw in a weekend workout for good measure.

Now, here’s where I think planning and committing is key because if it ain’t planned, it ain’t happening, people. So, may I suggest getting a solid plan in effect? Put your workouts in your calendar and pay for them in advance.

You’re more likely to make it happen when you’ve got someone holding you accountable, like your Pilates Instructor for instance, who will think not nice things if you stand her up at 6am, right?

So get it in the planner, not just for the week but for the upcoming months, too. You’ll start to feel better after your first workout but if you really want to see results, you’ve got to give it 3 months at least.

So here’s what my workouts did for me. #1 6 months later, not only was I looking pretty good physically but I was feeling like a freakin’ rockstar! I had more energy throughout the day; I was eating better, which by the way, goes hand in hand with working out. If you’re working that hard on your physical body, you’re less likely to grab crappy food to fuel up with. This is when I learned about better eating habits and what I would need to sustain myself better throughout my workouts.

Benefit number 2: I was happier! How many people would agree that happy people are more fun to be around? Hello! I turned into the annoying person who is always smiling and I would say “Hi” to anybody who passed me.

My favorite wellness quote comes from the brilliant Elle Woods of the Legally Blonde blockbuster series. She reminds us that:

“Exercise creates endorphins.

Endorphins make you happy.

Happy people don’t shoot their husbands.”

So there you have it, folks.

Not only was I looking good, feeling good and glowing but I was getting some major creative downloads during my workouts. Ideas for work, new business and philanthropic ideas were flowing.

This was life-changing stuff. There was a definite shift in mind, body and soul for me. And it all came from making a commitment and saying “yes” to myself and making the time to care for my body. When we show up for ourselves, amazing things happen.

New Mama Bliss Found Here!

Hello, Mama!

A big congratulations to you on your sweet little bundle! It’s one of the most joyous times in a woman’s life, holding this tiny little creation that’s so soft and cuddly and smells so yummy- there’s nothing like it.

I adore sniffing new babies, they’re so sweet and new. 🙂

Caring for this little bundle is probably all you want to do, but I’d like to remind you, that caring for yourself is also incredibly important. You are your #1 asset and without taking time for yourself, you may not be able to give 100%.

I speak from experience. After delivering all 3 of my daughters,(via c-section) I took second place, and slowly, but surely, it took it’s toll.

I only say this in hopes of offering some encouragement through experience. However! you’re in luck, because there are now more amazing resources for new mamas- like this incredible packet.

P.S. Here’s an excerpt from an article I wrote called, There’s Magic in Movement, where I share more about recovery and strengthening my body and mind through movement.

What I’ve been doing for the last 10 years is raising my three daughters and teaching Pilates. There’s a magical healing that happens when we move our body. My work’s focus is to teach women that a workout is about more than just your body, it’s about being present and available for your family, it’s about raising your vibration and tapping your joy, that will expand to your family, your community and beyond.

When we feel good, and raise the vibration of our body and mind by creating endorphins, it creates a ripple effect, not just in our home but also in our community and beyond.
As a Pilates Instructor and a mother, I wanted to take the knowledge I’d gained and share it with as many women as possible. Why? Because in the last 10 years of solo parenting, moving my body has been my saving grace.

I hit a point in my life where I was sick and tired of living in Blahville– I wanted out. At that point I made a commitment to myself to increase my movement practice. I committed to moving my body a minimum of 3 times per week, and it was life changing.

I rediscovered my joy, I tapped my creativity, and I was hopeful for what was to come.
Think about it. When you’ve made the time to workout, haven’t you felt better for the rest of the day? Didn’t you have a more productive day at work or around the house, refrain from barking at your kids during the morning mad-dash to school plus send your hubby off with a smooch instead of a grunt? Most likely, yes.

Cut to today

I am committed to helping women find their strength in mind, body and soul. By offering Pilates via webcam, I can reach more women anywhere in the world in the convenience of their own home.

In addition to building their physical and mental strength, each of my clients is an active participant in the development of a Mat Pilates teacher trainer course that I’m calling Pilates with Soul.

I’ve partnered with the YWCA in Haiti to bring this Mat Pilates teacher trainer course to their students in hopes of giving them a trade so that they can generate income to sustain their families.

Pilates with Soul, in its entirety, is a Virtual Pilates studio that offers Private and Group Pilates sessions via webcam, a Pilates Mat workout video library, and a 6-week online movement and wellness program.
